Prerequisites for registration: Technical Physics or now Technical Physics
Assesment methods :
During the term will be evaluated 4 term projects each for 10 points and the value of final oral and written exam is 60 points. Student can get grade A after obtaining at least 93 points, grade B at least 86 points, grade C at least 79 points, grade D at least 72 points and grade E at least 64 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After finishing of the subject student is able to understand to the basic principles of alternative energy sources. The student will acquire a comprehensive view of the physical principles of obtaining energy from selected alternative sources (solar energy, wind energy, water energy and geothermal energy). Student will have skills in parameter’s calculation for chosen systems of alternative energy sources, which will be shown by term projects. After finishing of the subject student is able to identify the solutions of problems from alternative energy sources and he is able to apply obtained knowledge in practice.
Course contents:
Energy from the physics point of view. Physical aspects of solar, water, wind and geothermal energy usage. Physical principles of solar energy, wind energy, water energy and geothermal energy production. Solar energy (solar collectors, photovoltaics, photovoltaic effect, solar-thermal electricity production), water energy (physical principle of water energy usage, small hydro plants and microsystems), wind energy (physical principle of air flow and its usage in wind power systems, typology of wind power plants), geothermal energy (geophysical aspects and principles of its usage).
